Spring is almost here!
Spring is around the corner and it is almost time for the preventative crabgrass control and fertilizer application. The window for this application is typically March through mid April. Crabgrass is most effectively controlled by this application, which prevents the crabgrass seed from germinating. We will start early this year with a chemical called Barricade to achieve the most effective results. Any broadleaf weeds will be spot treated as well.

What’s the deal with organic lawn care programs?
We are often asked about organic lawn care programs at Flourish and I would like to share some thoughts. Organic fertilizers are available, but are typically a much lower source of nutrients compared to synthetic fertilizers. Organic fertilizers are also typically more expensive than synthetics. Because of these characteristics much more of the higher priced organic product must be used to reach proper fertility rates, thus making the program costs much higher. Both synthetic fertilizer and organics are safe to use and are harmless to the environment if used properly. Weed control is the biggest difference between organic and the conventional lawn program. Herbicides used to kill weeds are safe if used by the label, but some people do not want pesticides around pets or children. Organic programs are very limited in controlling weeds and the expectations from an organic program should be far less in reference to weed control. While re-using mothers natures resources is a great and noble cause, the expectations for your lawn and pocketbook should be realized.
