What is perimeter pest control

One service we get asked alot of questions about is perimeter pest control. Perimeter pest control is a program that creates a barrier around the exterior foundation of your home to prevent insect pests from invading. 3 applications are made during the year, which are spaced out 8-10 weeks apart. The barrier is applicated in the mulch bed and up the house foundation approximately 2′. The barrier is also sprayed in window wells and across thresholds. We have gotten great feedback on the success of this program of limiting pests such as ants, spiders, etc. This treatment does not effect any interior pests, but solely stops outside pests from coming in.

What’s the deal with organic lawn care programs?

We are often asked about organic lawn care programs at Flourish and I would like to share some thoughts. Organic fertilizers are available, but are typically a much lower source of nutrients compared to synthetic fertilizers. Organic fertilizers are also typically more expensive than synthetics. Because of these characteristics much more of the higher priced organic product must be used to reach proper fertility rates, thus making the program costs much higher. Both synthetic fertilizer and organics are safe to use and are harmless to the environment if used properly. Weed control is the biggest difference between organic and the conventional lawn program. Herbicides used to kill weeds are safe if used by the label, but some people do not want pesticides around pets or children. Organic programs are very limited in controlling weeds and the expectations from an organic program should be far less in reference to weed control. While re-using mothers natures resources is a great and noble cause, the expectations for your lawn and pocketbook should be realized.
